The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has officially welcomed 25,342 new students into its academic community during its 28th Matriculation Ceremony held in Abuja. This milestone highlights NOUN’s growing impact in Nigeria’s higher education landscape, especially through its innovative Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system.
Breaking down the admissions, 18,698 students enrolled in undergraduate programs, while 6,564 students were admitted into postgraduate studies, including master’s and doctoral degrees. The event marks another significant chapter in NOUN’s mission to expand access to quality education through digital platforms.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Olufemi Peters, while addressing the new intakes, emphasized the importance of academic integrity, discipline, and resilience. He encouraged students to fully embrace the opportunities offered by NOUN’s flexible learning system. “Your classroom is now anywhere learning can take place—your phone, your home, your office. Make the most of it,” he stated.
Prof. Peters also reassured students of NOUN’s dedication to producing well-rounded, innovative graduates who are equipped for real-world challenges. He cited the achievements of past NOUN alumni in various professional fields as evidence of the university’s high educational standards.
