University of Ilorin Opens Postgraduate Admission for 2026/2027 Academic Session
The Postgraduate School of the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria has officially announced the call for applications into its postgraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.
Suitably qualified candidates are invited to apply for admission into various Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master’s, M.Phil., M.Phil./Ph.D., and Ph.D. programmes across several faculties and departments of the university.
Important Notice to Applicants
Applicants are advised to take note of the following important information before applying:
- Only programmes available for the 2026/2027 academic session are listed in the advertisement.
- Candidates should print out and study the advertisement carefully before starting the application process.
- The university will not be responsible for errors arising from incorrect applications.
- The postgraduate academic session runs for 12 calendar months, beginning 2 October and ending 30 September of the following year.
- Programmes automatically lapse once the maximum duration is reached, although extensions of not more than 12 months may be granted (maximum of two extensions).
Postgraduate Programmes Offered
The University offers the following postgraduate programmes:
1. Ph.D. Degree Programmes
Available to holders of:
- M.A.
- M.Ed.
- M.Eng.
- M.Sc.
- LL.M.
- M.P.H
Requirements:
- Minimum 60% score or CGPA of 4.0 on a 5-point scale in the Master’s degree.
Duration:
- Full-time:
Minimum 36 months – Maximum 60 months - Part-time:
Minimum 48 months – Maximum 72 months
A doctoral thesis is required at the end of the programme.
2. M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree Programmes
Eligible candidates include those with:
- 55% – 59.99% score, or
- CGPA of 3.50 – 3.99
Key details:
- Available only for full-time candidates
- Minimum duration: 12 months
- Maximum duration: 24 months
- Requires submission of a dissertation
Candidates may later convert to a Ph.D. programme after satisfactory performance and assessment.
3. M.Phil. Degree Programmes
Eligibility:
- 50% – 54.99% score, or
- CGPA of 3.00 – 3.49
Programme duration:
- Minimum 18 months
- Maximum 24 months
Candidates must produce a research dissertation.
4. Master’s Degree Programmes
Available degrees include:
- M.A
- M.Ed
- M.Eng
- M.Sc
- LL.M
- Master of Public Health (MPH)
Programme duration:
- Full-time: 18 – 24 months
- Part-time: 36 – 48 months
Master’s programmes involve coursework and a research dissertation.
5. Postgraduate Diploma Programmes
Postgraduate Diploma programmes are available to candidates with:
- Third Class Honours degrees
General Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Possess all entry certificates before purchasing the application form
- Present NYSC Discharge Certificate or Exemption Certificate on or before 30 September 2026
- Submit application forms online with scanned credentials
- Provide five O’Level credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics
- Forward academic transcripts to the relevant department
- Provide evidence of English proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL) if the previous institution used a different language of instruction
Applicants with foreign degrees must submit additional supporting documentation where required.

The non-refundable application fee is:
- ₦25,000 for applicants within Nigeria
- $200 for international applicants
Qualifying Examination
All applicants should note:
- The Postgraduate Qualifying Examination will hold on Saturday, 13 June 2026.
- Applicants must provide valid phone numbers and email addresses for communication.
Method of Application
Applications must be completed online through the university application portal.
