Popular Afrobeats artist Adekunle Gold is trending again—not for a hit song this time, but for a beautiful act of kindness that has warmed hearts across Nigeria.

The singer recently gave out  ₦250,000 each to a number of Nigerian graduates who finished with first-class honours from their various universities. It all started when he made a post on X (formerly Twitter) asking graduates with first-class degrees to share their transcripts.

“If you graduated with First Class, post your transcripts,” he wrote.

Thousands of young Nigerians responded, proudly posting screenshots of their results and sharing emotional stories about their struggles and triumphs through school. Touched by their experiences, Adekunle Gold selected several individuals and rewarded them with ₦250,000 each—not as a competition, but as a way to encourage and celebrate excellence.

Many fans and celebrities have praised him for using his fame and resources to shine a light on academic success—something often ignored in the country.

In a similar trend, popular TikTok content creator Peller carried out a bold social experiment. He interviewed 20 master’s degree holders for the position of a cameraman, and surprisingly offered a mouth-watering monthly salary of ₦500,000. His aim? To highlight the struggles of highly educated Nigerians in a tough job market and spark conversations about unemployment and underemployment.

Back to Adekunle Gold—beyond this viral giveaway, the singer has long been committed to social causes. Through the Adekunle Gold Foundation, he supports people living with sickle cell disease, a condition he personally lives with. His foundation also runs a scholarship and mentorship programme focused on music and entertainment, offering training in areas like music production, songwriting, marketing, and music business.

From heartwarming giveaways to long-term empowerment projects, Adekunle Gold keeps proving that real celebrity status is more than just talent—it’s about using your platform to lift others.
