FG Launches ‘Next Moonshot’ Initiative, Opens Portal for N50 Million Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG)
The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Education, has officially launched the Next Moonshot Initiative and opened the application portal for the Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG)—a transformative national programme aimed at turning student ideas into commercially viable, high-impact ventures.
Announced on 17th November 2025, this initiative forms a major pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda, with a strong focus on empowering Nigerian students to build the nation’s next generation of innovation-driven enterprises.
Up to N50 Million Equity-Free Funding for Student Innovators
Speaking at the launch, the Honourable Minister of Education, Chief Dr. Tunji Alausa FAMedS, CON, emphasized the strategic importance of the scheme:
“The President has challenged us to look for the next Moonshot within our tertiary institutions… We are scouting for future Nigerian Unicorns. This is an equity-free seed investment in Nigeria’s future.”
The S-VCG offers up to N50 million equity-free grants for student founders working on innovations in STEMM fields—Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences.
Successful applicants will also benefit from a robust support ecosystem, including:
- Intensive Incubation Programs
- Expert Mentorship from top entrepreneurs and industry leaders
- Access to tools, platforms, and technical resources needed to scale their startups
This structure ensures that selected projects move beyond ideas and become market-ready businesses.
Strategic Partnership with Google for Global Advantage
To strengthen the initiative, the Ministry has partnered with Google to integrate advanced technology into the application and evaluation process.
Google’s Gemini AI powers embedded “evaluation agents” on the portal, ensuring fair, intelligent, and efficient project screening.
Additionally, every applicant who successfully submits a project will receive:
One-year free Google Gemini Pro license
Premium learning resources to enhance their technical and entrepreneurial skills
According to the Ministry, this partnership is designed to ensure that Nigerian students begin their innovation journey with world-class tools and global competitiveness.
