JAMB Extends 2025 Public Universities Admission Deadline to November 17 — See Why

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the 2025 public universities admission deadline to November 17, 2025. Find out the reasons behind the extension and what it means for candidates and institutions.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced an extension of the 2025 admission deadline for all public universities in Nigeria. The new deadline for the completion of admission processes is now Monday, November 17, 2025, instead of the earlier date of Friday, October 31, 2025.

This update was contained in a statement signed by the Head of Media, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on November 2, 2025. The decision followed several appeals and new developments that affected the progress of ongoing admission exercises across public institutions.

According to the Board, the extension became necessary due to “emergent and compelling circumstances” and aims to ensure fairness, inclusiveness, and smooth completion of admissions.

JAMB explained that the extension was based on two key reasons.

First, the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) requested an extension because of disruptions caused by a recent court order. The order had temporarily halted new admissions by directing universities to maintain the 2024/2025 admission status quo—a restriction that was only lifted on October 28, 2025.

Second, the National Universities Commission (NUC), in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, had recently approved 229 new academic programmes across 37 universities. The Board noted that admission into these newly accredited programmes was still being processed, hence the need for additional time.

While expressing appreciation to universities for their diligence and cooperation in meeting previous deadlines, JAMB emphasized that the new deadline of November 17, 2025, is final and must be strictly followed.

The Board reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a seamless, transparent, and credible admission process that aligns with national educational goals and upholds institutional autonomy.
