The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has elected Professor Chris Piwuna as its new national president. Piwuna is a consultant psychiatrist at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital and also serves as the Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Jos.
He succeeds Professor Victor Osodeke, a Professor of Soil Science from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State.
The election took place at the union’s 23rd National Delegates Congress held in Benin on Sunday. It was a closely contested race between Prof. Piwuna and Prof. Adamu Babayo from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.
Prof. Piwuna now leads the union at a time when several key academic and administrative issues are under national discussion.
